While the live tweets of what seemed to be one of the greatest spectacle that has ever graced the Philippine concert scene brought about an emotion too confusing to ever be defined, looking through the uploads and articles, surprisingly, were more invigorating than agonizing. For once I thought missing out on Lady Gaga in Manila for the second time around would be devastating, however right now, after stumbling upon numerous posts online, I cannot help but feel privilege for what she has done and excited for what lies ahead. Although I still wish I had seen her live, or even just back stage or a meet and greet sesh, Im really glad that she re-visited the country where she not only topped her previous concert but also baptized (how ironic) one of the modern architectural wonders that we have, well for me anyway. As for the rest of her unfortunate fans, we'll continue to believe in her music and advocacy with the hopes of her coming back for more concerts soon

Oddball Sensation

Quoted from one of her chart-topping singles, the music of Lady Gaga has not
only captured her sense of style but her sense of being as well. From her
outrageous outfits to her uncanny disposition, the word “ordinary” only seems
unfitting. After coming from an unpleasant childhood, Lady Gaga is now
considered as one of the generation’s biggest pop icons. Her sudden skyrocket
to fame seemed surreal at first, but she has proven herself to be a one of a
kind artist that has caught the public’s attention. Her over-the-top
interpretation of fashion, music, and art is what sets her apart from the
others. Truly, Lady Gaga’s eccentric personality is her greatest asset.
Known
for her seemingly haunting songs, Lady Gaga has now become a household name.
Six years in the business, she has generated a number of smashing hits that
have dominated the charts. She is a well renowned live performer who embodies
the real essence of theatricality. Also, her outrageous choice of clothing is
highly anticipated, always making her own fashion statements. Owing to her
excessive creativity, Lady Gaga has become one of the best in her field. Her
innovative ways helped single her out from the rest of the business. She is
rightfully dubbed as a creative genius, substantiated by her one-of-a-kind
music videos, performances and fashion. Indeed, Lady Gaga’s out of the box
thinking leaves a lasting mark on the public that has definitely contributed to
her success.
Gaga’s
unusual sense of style is her way of life. Just like everyone, she puts on
outfits that best express herself. The ever so popular “meat dress” that she
donned at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards is just one of her most talked about
ensembles. She wore this piece made of raw meat not only to make a fashion
statement but also to voice out her opinion regarding a social issue. Gaga
says, "If we don't stand up for what we believe in . . . we're going to
have as much rights as the meat on our own bones". She also appeared
on Good Morning America wearing a latex outfit. She says, “Today was a latex
condom-inspired outfit because we’re here to talk about safe sex. Today, I
really wanted to be a representative of what we women all over the world need
to be concerned about, which is the leading cause of death in the world, HIV.”
Lady Gaga has proven that she isn’t just a trendsetter, but also an effective
advocator.
Throughout
her years under the limelight, she has been very vocal on her stands regarding
various social and political issues. She has very strong convictions that many
may oppose against, but despite all of these, she continues to uphold her
beliefs. She is known as one of today’s most audacious celebrities. Lady Gaga
has utilized her prominence and innovativeness to advocate her personal
principles by not minding how the public perceives her. Her bold personality is
something that is commendable and envious; it is what makes the little monsters
go gaga over Gaga.
But
despite her massive fan base, there are still nitpickers who grumble on her
over exaggerated ways. She has been labeled several things including attention
seeking, vulgar, and fake. But despite the badmouthing of the media, she has
taken criticism without hostility; she has too much self-love to care for
people’s critiques. She goes with the principle that she’s just being herself
and if the public isn’t fond of her uniqueness then she can’t do anything about
it.
But
behind all the glitz and glamour lies her alter ego. Stefani Joanne Germanotta,
as she was known back then, was not your ideal teenager. You would have thought
that much talent could have easily boosted her up the social ladder, but instead,
she was the center of mockery. She was bullied and harassed; you could only
imagine what a 14-year-old girl would feel. But these downfalls have led her to
strive more for fame; she never gave up. She pursued her dream, took up Musical
Theater in the New York University and from then on, her musical career started
to flourish.
What
makes Lady Gaga a huge public sensation is the fact that she is both relatable
and inspiring. Her unconventional personality comes from a vulnerable experience that the
public can relate to. Everyone feels like an outcast sometimes and her story
sheds a light to the ones belittled by the society. She accepted life’s
challenges with open arms and learned from her experiences. She might have
stumbled upon a lot of trials, but these trials molded her into the exceptional
Lady Gaga that we know and love.
Superstardom
is not always about perfection. It comes with making the best out of your
strengths and your weaknesses, holding onto your beliefs, and never giving up on
your dream. It is a never-ending battle of proving yourself to the public that
you are worth their while. Lady Gaga’s distinctive qualities are what set her
apart from the rest in the industry. She has dominated the music mainstream
with her overstated means, which will always be remembered, and her provocative way
of accepting her oddity has opened the eyes of the public into self-love. Being
genuinely true to herself, Lady Gaga has built a legacy that will continue onto
the next generations.
